Overview

A cold desert adorned by mountainous valleys is how one describes Spiti Valley in a nutshell, but within its embrace, one can find some of the most surreal panoramic views, ancient monasteries offering serenity, and an abundance of trekking trails. Life moves at a slow pace in the “middle land,” with herds of Himalayan blue sheep nibbling on grass, local farmers collecting their crops, and monks silently chanting the name of Buddha in the form of sacred prayer. The air is different in Spiti—pure and filled with peace. Simply breathing it in rejuvenates your inner self, making it an experience worth having. However, with this Spiti Winter Expedition 4x4, we show you a different side of Spiti. We take you to a world where you get to witness the magic of nature through mesmerizing valleys, majestic mountains, and wicked trails all covered in a thick blanket of snow that stretches as far as the eye can see.

In this Spiti Winter Expedition, we spice things up even more by increasing the stakes. The roads of Spiti Valley are notoriously hostile, with paths carved out with a ruggedness that isn't found in many places. Yet, there’s no greater feeling than off-roading on these tough terrains—a challenge worth taking up, but only for the bold. Since normal tempo travelers don’t provide the adrenaline rush that comes with driving on rocky trails, we elevate the adventure by taking you on a road trip to Spiti Valley using 4x4 vehicles capable of overcoming all hurdles that the roads present.

We begin our journey from Delhi to Shimla, where our trip captains conduct a brief session, providing all the necessary information you need before embarking on this incredible adventure. The route from Shimla is ideal for Spiti Winter Expeditions, not only for its scenic views but also because the slow and steady ascent to higher altitudes helps your body acclimatize. Our next stop, Chitkul, situated at a height of more than 11,000 ft, is renowned as the last village in India. Travelers quickly realize that the best part of this hamlet is its remarkably clean air, offering a breath of fresh air that is cherished after spending most days in bustling metropolitan cities. We know that every trip becomes ten times more memorable when shared with fellow adventurers. To ensure you form connections with others who share your passion, we indulge in group bonding activities. These games foster a sense of comfort among everyone, making the long journey ahead seem short and sweet.

Our next destination, Kalpa, is known for its picturesque landscapes, with the trail leading up to it equally beautiful. The town of Reckong Peo in Kinnaur, famous for its apple orchards and rich culture, serves as an excellent pit stop, offering a glimpse into the journey that awaits. Upon reaching Kalpa, we ensure you explore some of the best places, including the 3,000-year-old Kalpa Monastery and the infamous Suicide Point, known for inducing fear in the hearts of travelers with its sheer cliffs and narrow roads. The view from Suicide Point is breathtaking, especially during this winter expedition when the entire Kinnaur range is blanketed in snow. After spending a night in Kalpa, surrounded by snow-laden mountains, we move toward our next destination, Nako. A perfect pit stop along the way is the tiny hamlet of Khab, where the Sutlej and Spiti Rivers converge. Driving through snow-covered Khab with the river flowing alongside is one of the highlights of this winter expedition. Next, we reach Nako, nestled in the heart of the trans-Himalayan ranges with Reo Purgyal as its stunning backdrop. This tiny hamlet, situated on the Indo-China border, features the serene Nako Lake and the ancient Nako Monastery, which dates back to the 11th century. The influence of Buddhism is ever-present in the valley, but it’s only when you meet the locals, engage with their customs, and hear their stories that you begin to feel the true essence of Spiti Valley. Kaza, our next destination, offers a blend of white landscapes adorned with majestic mountains, meadows, streams, and barren terrains, all draped in snow. The striking contrast between the white snow and the cobalt blue sky is truly breathtaking, evoking a mix of emotions. Known for its vibrant festivities, monasteries, and rich culture, Kaza is the heart and commercial center of Spiti Valley.

Finally, after overcoming all the bumps in the road, we find ourselves in the center of Spiti, experiencing the winter wonderland in all its glory. Under starry night

skies, surrounded by lofty mountains no longer displaying any patches of brown, the pearly snowflakes replacing dusty terrains, you will feel truly alive and free.

During our sightseeing tour, we will visit all the iconic places that come to mind when one hears “Spiti.” Key Monastery, known locally as Kye Gompa, established in the 11th century, stands tall like a bejeweled crown adorning the valley. The Chicham Bridge, the highest bridge in Asia, sits 1,000 ft above a deep gorge. Komic, one of the most beautiful yet unexplored villages in India, offers a glimpse of life at a different pace in one of the highest villages in the country. Hikkim, home to the highest post office in the world, invites you to send a letter and reconnect with the old-school charm of handwritten notes.

We save the most iconic spot for last to ensure you cherish the moment for years to come. Langza, known for its fossils of ancient seabed plants, serves as the final stop of our Spiti Winter Expedition. Overlooking this tiny hamlet is the statue of Buddha, believed by locals to protect them from all evil. This colorful statue, the tallest structure in the village, stands as a fierce guardian. This Spiti Valley Winter Expedition is your ticket to a unique getaway that blends adventure and serenity. It’s an experience worth having and something every traveler should tick off their bucket list as soon as possible. Although Spiti can never be less beautiful or charming, the snow adds an extra layer of magic to its eternal allure. Therefore, the best time to embark on a 4x4 Spiti Winter Expedition is from November to March, when the landscape transforms into a breathtaking wonderland.

As we celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year, expect delightful festivities featuring 2+2 Snacks, Music, Cake, and a Bonfire (weather dependent). These celebrations will enhance the experience, creating unforgettable memories in the stunning landscapes of Spiti Valley.

You must keep at least three pairs of quick dry tees so that you can wash them in between stops for proper hygiene.

Poncho.png

Poncho:

A poncho is an evolved form of a raincoat that provides coverage to your body as well as your bag and ensures total water protection from rain.

REVIEWS

What our Clients Say About Us

I recently went to Winter Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel which ended up being more as a trip with best friends. JustWravel had everything sorted for us be it transportation, safety, constant checkups, personalised care , accommodation, food and everything was super comfortable and amazing. Then it comes to the best part of this trip our trip captains - Abhishek and Ramneek He treated us like their own brother from day one and made sure all of us are having the time of our lives. They had constant checkups to ensure all of us are doing great physically. They had good knowledge about the place and shared the same with us as well. I would surely plan my next trip with JustWravel. I would like to mention an instance: I forgot my bag in the Volvo bus and there was nothing important in that bag but our captains still went out of their way to ensure that I got my bag safely.
