Best Time to Visit Meghalaya

Meghalaya, renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is a captivating destination for travelers seeking adventure and natural beauty. The best time to visit this enchanting state varies by season, making it essential to plan your Meghalaya backpacking or Meghalaya group tour accordingly.

Winter (November to February)

Winter is considered the peak season for visiting Meghalaya, with pleasant weather and clear skies. Temperatures range from 4°C to 16°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like trekking and exploring the state's famous caves and waterfalls. This season also features vibrant cultural festivals, such as Shad Suk Mynsiem in April, providing a unique glimpse into local traditions. The dry conditions during these months allow for comfortable exploration of popular sites like Shillong and Cherrapunji, making it a prime time for group tours and backpacking adventures.

Spring (March to April)

Spring marks a transitional period with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This time is characterized by blooming flowers and lush greenery, making it a beautiful backdrop for sightseeing. Although occasional showers may occur, the weather remains mostly sunny, perfect for exploring attractions like the Living Root Bridges and Ward’s Lake. Spring is also a great time for those on a Meghalaya group tour to enjoy fewer crowds and more affordable accommodation options.

Monsoon (May to September)

The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, transforming Meghalaya into a lush paradise. While the landscape flourishes, with waterfalls at their most spectacular, travel can be challenging due to slippery roads and occasional landslides. Temperatures during this period range from 15°C to 30°C. Although outdoor activities may be limited, the monsoon offers a unique experience for those willing to embrace the rain, and budget travelers can benefit from lower accommodation rates. However, this season is generally not recommended for extensive backpacking or group tours due to unpredictable weather conditions.

Autumn (October)

October marks the end of the monsoon season, and the landscape is still vibrant and lush. The weather begins to stabilize, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C. This month is ideal for those looking to experience the beauty of Meghalaya without the heavy rains, making it a great time for outdoor activities and cultural exploration. The clear skies and pleasant temperatures create a perfect setting for photography and sightseeing, appealing to both backpackers and group travelers alike.

Safety should always be a priority during your travels. Keep your loved ones informed about your whereabouts to ensure someone knows where you are at all times. Download an offline map on your phone to navigate without relying on internet access. Carry essential items like a torch, a Swiss knife, and pepper spray for added security. While solo exploration can be fun, it’s advisable to explore offbeat places in a group for safety. Choose accommodations in prime locations with good Google ratings and reviews to ensure a safe stay. Lastly, take the time to know your destination; mingling with locals and conducting thorough research will enhance your experience and allow you to explore freely.

How and What to Pack?

When packing for your girls' trip, excitement should outweigh the amount of clothing you bring. Opt for versatile outfits that can be mixed and matched for various activities, reducing the overall bulk in your luggage. Comfortable shoes are a must for walking and exploring, while swimsuits and cover-ups are essential for poolside relaxation. Don’t forget your sunscreen and sunglasses to protect your skin from the sun. Pack necessary toiletries and personal care items, and ensure you have chargers and power banks for your devices to stay connected and capture every memorable moment. With the right packing strategy, you can focus on enjoying your trip rather than worrying about what to wear!

What our Clients Say About Us

It was my very first experience traveling with a group to Meghalaya and choosing JustWravel was indeed the best decision. The food, stays, and travels all were top notch and our organizer especially Ashish ensured we were safe and were readily available for any help. I would definitely recommend choosing JustWravel any day. Can't wait to travel again with them!

I recently went to Winter Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel which ended up being more as a trip with best friends. JustWravel had everything sorted for us be it transportation, safety, constant checkups, personalised care , accommodation, food and everything was super comfortable and amazing. Then it comes to the best part of this trip our trip captains - Abhishek and Ramneek He treated us like their own brother from day one and made sure all of us are having the time of our lives. They had constant checkups to ensure all of us are doing great physically. They had good knowledge about the place and shared the same with us as well. I would surely plan my next trip with JustWravel. I would like to mention an instance: I forgot my bag in the Volvo bus and there was nothing important in that bag but our captains still went out of their way to ensure that I got my bag safely.

Just got back 😁, from a week-long 20-26th January, all-girls tour package of Manali-Kasol-Jibhi, headed by Geetanjali and Divya, as travel coordinators the trip was truly enjoyable and very memorable, especially for me as the youngest girl, at 56years I,in a group of 16 girls (20 year olds)....the team leader , geetanjali and second in command,Divya are very capable, sporty and encouraging type...they make an excellent combination and have good leadership quality..,will go ,great places in the near future....they are capable of tackling unforseen circumstances in a spirited manner,...also ,not to be forgotten , to complement ,the driving skills of Mr.Mani bhaiya, who navigated the difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, very well.
