Sikkim’s Sanglaphu Lake has opened to the public for the first time in history

For the first time ever, Sanglaphu Lake in the Mangan district, sikkim is now open to visitors. Previously inaccessible to tourists, this stunning high altitude lake is now welcoming the public, providing a wonderful opportunity to explore the breathtaking beauty of the region. Why Sanglaphu Lake?

Sanglaphu Cho, also known as the “Great Lake,” is situated at an impressive altitude of 5,080 meters (16,670 feet). It is located about 5 kilometers from Yumesamdong, also known as Zero Point, near Lachung.

Sanglaphu Cho holds great religious significance and is considered a sacred lake. Local residents often come here to seek blessings and offer prayers. To celebrate this important occasion, the monks of Samten Choling Monastery in Lachung organized a prayer service, which was attended by various people including the leader of Lachung Dzomsa, local residents, taxi drivers, and hotel staff.

Pema Wangdi Lachungpa, the leader of Lachung Dzomsa, emphasized the cultural and religious significance of Sanglaphu Cho. Water from the Gurudongmar Glacier flows to Gurudongmar Lake on its western side, while the southern part is nourished by the Lachung Chu.
