The wait is finally over…

According to the latest update, the Leh-Manali National Highway, which spans 428 kilometers, is now open for vehicles. Officials have informed us that the Border Roads Organisation has successfully reopened the highway after it was closed for nearly five months due to heavy snowfall during the winter season.

This highway is an important alternate route that connects Ladakh, a Union Territory, with the rest of the country through Himachal Pradesh. It was closed in November when winter arrived and snow started accumulating. A spokesperson from the defense sector in Leh has confirmed that the road is now accessible to vehicles again, thanks to the extensive snow clearance operation conducted by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

The entire snow clearance operation in the Ladakh region and Himachal Pradesh was carried out by two teams, namely 111 Road Construction Company (RCC) and 753 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) under Project HIMANK of BRO, and 70 RCC and 38 BRTF under Project Deepak. This challenging task involved clearing the snow from the highways using highly skilled manpower and advanced machinery. The operation was conducted simultaneously and in coordination by the two teams, with Project Deepak focusing on the stretch from Manali to Sarchu (the border of Ladakh and Himachal), and Project Himank clearing the highway from Leh to Sarchu.

This road connects the two regions and is very important for tourists who want to explore the beautiful landscapes and rich culture of these areas. It is not only used for transporting goods but also plays a crucial role in promoting travel and tourism. It gives access to remote and captivating destinations like Pangong Lake and Nubra Valley.
