Kazakhstan launches the Neo Nomad Visa

Kazakhstan has recently launched a fresh visa option called the ” Nomad” visa, catering to individuals who blend work and travel, such as modern nomads and working tourists. This new visa system was crafted by drawing insights from over 50 nations that have implemented comparable programs post-pandemic. Foreigners seeking a Neo-Nomad visa must demonstrate a consistent monthly income amounting to no less than $3,000, possess valid health insurance and furnish a document verifying their clean criminal record. This visa option caters to professionals across a wide range of fields such as IT, marketing, finance, consulting, design, and e-commerce.

The individuals holding the visa are permitted to reside in Kazakhstan for a duration of one year and can still be employed by a company based in another country. This opportunity enables foreigners to fully experience the local customs and traditions, while also boosting Kazakhstan’s economic growth potential — with projections indicating a potential annual revenue increase of approximately $8 million if 500 visas are granted.

Participants in the New Nomad program will live in Kazakhstan and contribute financially to the local economy. The initiative has no adverse impact on the employment opportunities for local citizens, as foreigners do not compete for jobs in the country.

Yerbol Myrzabasynov, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, highlighted the collaboration of multiple ministries in enhancing Kazakhstan’s appeal to digital nomads, a group that has grown to 35 million worldwide. Both Almaty and Astana have been recognized as top destinations for this new breed of travelers, making it onto the prestigious list of the 150 most sought-after cities.    Numerous nations have implemented visas specifically for digital nomads to draw in remote workers and boost economic activity. Spain, for instance, has rolled out the Digital Nomad Visa enabling individuals to reside and work from a distance for a maximum of 12 months, with the option of renewing. Portugal has established a D7 Visa initiative aimed at individuals generating passive income, which includes remote workers. These visa programs play a role in fostering economic growth within the region, driving up spending, and enticing highly qualified experts.
