Update Regarding Our Trips and Treks to Uttarakhand

Treks to Uttarakhand
Written by Just Wravel

As we write this, our heart goes out to the families who have lost their kins and property due to the calamity that struck on Sunday, 7th February 2021 due to the collapse of a part of Nanda Devi’s glacier.

Due to the breaking off of the glacier, the Rishiganga and Dhauliganga rivers in Chamoli district flooded almost instantly, with workers working at hydel projects getting trapped.

There have been reports of many people dead and hundreds still missing. On the other hand, there have been many people rescued by the ITBP and the Indian army, which has brought some moments of respite and relief for their families and closed ones.

The rescuers are the ones to be applauded as they are putting their lives on the line and helping others at such a distressing time. More power to them!

Just like every weekend, our treks for Uttarakhand left on Friday and Saturday respectively. The treks that left were Nag Tibba, Chopta-Chandrashila, Kedarkantha and Dayara Bugyal.

We are really relieved to announce that there has been no mishap whatsoever in our Uttarakhand batches and all the group members, including the trek leaders and local staff are safe.

Batch members of Nag Tibba and Chopta-Chandrashila have returned safely to New Delhi, while group members of Dayara Bugyal will return to Dehradun tonight.

Batch members of Kedarkantha are safe and sound as well, and will be returning to Dehradun by tomorrow night.

Our Operations team and local team have been working round the clock to ensure the safety of all our wravelers. We also thank them for their immense support during this crisis.

We have received many messages and mails from people who have doubts regarding travelling to Uttarakhand. We would refrain people from going towards Karnprayag, Devprayag, Joshimath and Chamoli district.

The state of Uttarakhand has also issued a “High Alert” after this incident. We would advise people to kindly follow the state guidelines to ensure their safety.

Regarding this weekend’s departure, Kedarkantha Trek would go to plan and we will ensure complete safety of our fellow wravelers.
