A news that could bring a smile to many travellers is finally here. Spiti Valley, which has been majorly closed for the most part of 2020, is reopening starting Feb 17th, 2021.
The decision to reopen Spiti Valley has been taken with a lot of discussion and deliberation. Also the rollout of the COVID-19 Vaccination throughout the nation has also given an impetus to the reopening of Spiti Valley.
However, before tourists can enter Spiti Valley, they need to follow certain guidelines and SOPs which must be strictly adhered to.
- Any sort of entry to Kibber Village and Kibber wildlife habitat is prohibited, as the village of Kibber has decided not to host travellers and wildlife enthusiasts for this winter.
- All tour operators have to ensure that each of the people in the groups travelling to Spiti has a valid RAT/ RT-PCR test done at an authorised Covid Lab/ Hospital 72 to 96 hours before entering the Valley. It is the responsibility of the tour operator to ensure this.
- If travellers reach Spiti independently including drivers who are unaware of these SOPs have to report to the Govt. Hospital and get a rapid Covid Test done. It is the responsibility of the homestay/hotel hosting such travellers to make sure they get tested before they move around for sightseeing.
- While travelling, all the travellers have to wear masks and maintain social distancing whenever they are outside of their hotel/homestay and make sure the people of Spiti are safe.
