Goa is set to add another tourist attraction to its collection, and it could be one of the most interesting tourist spot that the state would have to offer.
Goa is soon going to have another jewel in Aguada by March 2021. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa has announced that Aguada Jail would be renovated by March end.
After the renovation is completed, the jail would be opened up for visitors.
There won’t be just jail for tourists to explore. The Aguada Jail would also be showcasing the fight against the Portuguese ruler by the people of Goa. It forms a part of the Aguada Fort in Sinquerim village near River Mandovi in North Goa.
After all the renovation is done, the revamped jail structure would focus largely on two cells which hold a special importance, it is where freedom fighters TB Cunha and Ram Manohar.
According to the quotes by the senior official of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation that the cost of renovating the Aguada Fort would come at a total cost of INR 22 crore and all the renovation work would be done under the scheme of Swadesh Darshan Scheme by the Central Government.
Until the GTDC took over the renovation of the jail, the jail was being used up until 2015, after which it was decategorised as a jail.
